To celebrate AmeriCorps Week HandsOn VISTA AmeriCorps members are joining with VISTAs from the Greater Phoenix area, including the Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits, DES, and the International Rescue Committee to serve as Volunteer Leaders for an 800-person volunteer project that will take place on March 14th, 2012. HandsOn Greater Phoenix has partnered with Roosevelt Row Arts District (RoRo) and Community Development Corporation (CDC) to develop a variety of highly-visible revitalization and beautification projects. VISTA members will lead other volunteers in Sunflower Field Cultivation, Graffiti and Trash Abatement, Growhouse Community Garden Maintenance, Landscaping Easements, Assembling and Staining Benches/Picnic Tables, Ribbon and Painted Murals. RoRo is emerging as one of the most dynamic areas in downtown Phoenix and is a valued cultural resource in the metropolitan region and the state. The planned volunteer tasks will serve as part of ongoing improvement efforts and will contribute to the vibrancy of this high-traffic district in downtown Phoenix.
